BUMS @ ESC 2009 Silicon Valley
Here are some pics from the Judging at the Embedded Systems Conference 2009 in Silicon Valley, San Jose Ca.
I was lucky enough to be in the top 5 to get a free trip there from the sponsors with all expenses paid, pretty cool, it even got better when I took home 3rd place. A lot of people are saying I should have gotten first for all the effort I put into this challenge, but taking home 3rd was quite a challenge on it's own. For one, this was my first 32 Bit Microcontroller project, and my first time writing code in C for a microcontroller, to top it off I was against 395 Embedded Systems Engineers from around the world who do this kind of stuff in their sleep!! I only do it as a hobby! The guy from China who took 2nd place had all kinds of PHD's and degrees, so taking home 3rd was great for me, since I beat out 393 others, and I was the only one who was a US Citizen, the others in the top 5 were from Hungary, Vietnam, China and New Zealand. So 3rd place is actually first place in the US and 3rd in the world!! There are more of the pics from ESC 2009 on flicker....

Here in these pics I was explainig to the judges how the system works.
The top 5 anxiously waiting for the annoucement of the winners during the Keynote speech by the CEO of Microchip Steve Sanghi.
after the annoucement....

Here is the video they showed at ESC before the Keynote speech...

All in all this competition has really been great, got to meet plenty of great people along the way, and I acquired quite a bit more knowledge that I can use as a stepping stone for more.... Till next time.....
