Intel_Dell Mod Part II
Intel_Dell Mod Part II
After a few days of wet sanding and primering the parts, they are finally ready for the base coat color!!

After a few more coats of primer with some wet sanding in between, I believe I am ready to put the base coat on the parts....

Once the base coat dries, I will apply a few coats of clear coat and wet sand in between...

I decided on using some Metallic Teal for the base coat... ( I got the paints from a local Artist Tom Sheerin, thanks Tom!)
Although I couldnt find a second color I liked from his arsenal of paints...

Ok.... all the painting is done..... almost.... I went out and had our local auto parts store mix me up some Sunburst Orange color like you would see on those Chevy HHR's...
I used my airbrush to trim all the cutouts on the case, and also I used the same color to paint the front CD_Drive bezel and the front lower grill... I also painted all the case screws the same Teal Metallic as the case color. I replaced the Motherboard Mounting Plate with a piece of 1/4" plexiglass, which you can see in the pics below, still wrapped in its white protective plastic.

These pictures do not do the paint any justice, it doesnt look like the real thing in person.... The orange actually looks like some acid has corroded the sides (according to my 10 year old son Zack. Which he says looks really cool.) I originally thought about using some silver paint for the trim, but according to several people I showed the colors to, that the orange looks better, so I went with the masses and stuck with the Teal and Orange (both mettalic automotive paints)
Taking the time to wet sand in between coats of paint really pays off in the end...
you can see the reflection of the piece of plywood the case is sitting on.

I had painted all the buttons the same orange as the trim. I also ended up taking the DVD_Drive apart and painting the face plate of it the same metallic teal as the case.

Now on to the lighting...

I had some orange and blue LED's laying around so I thought I would put them to some good use, they were supposed to be diffused, but I ended up sanding the surface of the LED's with some 120 grit sand paper to "diffuse" them more.

I used the Orange for the CD_Rom bezel, and the Blue's for the case feet...

The feet are turned out of 1/4" Plexiglass, which I then sanded with 120 Grit sand paper to "diffuse" them...
I then Glued on some Aluminum cone shaped feet that I had for one of my Shuttle PC's.

These feet are temporary right now until I finish my RGB LED controller,
then I will replace these with ones you can change to any color in the available color spectrum. Below are pics of the RGB Led displaying the primary colors...
And finally the Plasma Ball, and a couple of cold cathode blue thunder light tubes for the inside......

I ended up etching a design on the top piece of plexiglass that I used...

I also etched a piece of plexiglass to decorate the inside of the grill, which I have not installed,
I will after the competition, since this is not my original artwork.

And here it is in all it's shiny glory!!
